The Coffs Harbour region is home to some of the most stunning wedding venues on the Mid-North Coast. Although most couples opt for child-free events to maximise adults-only celebrating, there’s always a few exceptions. Many of these venues offer ‘destination weddings’ therefore making guests traveling with family a common occurrence.
We’ve been those people that travelled far to be a part of a dear friend’s special day. And sometimes it’s also the perfect opportunity to make it a family holiday with the littles.
Being a three bedroom cottage near the beach, Diggers Beach Cottage provides a holiday rental that is perfect for a stylish family getaway. And it just so happens we’re next door to one of Coffs Harbour’s most popular wedding venues, Aanuka Beach Resort. So we’re sharing ways brides can make it easier for guests (with children) traveling from afar to attend their wedding festivities. Whether the young ones are invited to the wedding or not.
When sending out invitations make it clear whether or not you intend to have a child-free wedding. Whether the reason has to do with venue limitations, personal preference or adults only shenanigans (not suitable for young ears and eyes). By setting the expectation early on, you are thinking of your guests best interests. Allowing them plenty of time to arrange a sitter at home. Or even arrange to bring a trusted relative along to help with minding responsibilities.
This is not a one size fits all decision. Even if you are having a child-free wedding, don’t feel guilty if you decide to allow exceptions. Talk to your guests well in advance, to cater to their specific situation. If you see the need to make exceptions (say for breast feeding Mums or children you have strong connections with), know that it is your day and people will understand.
Having a professional nanny (or two) already interviewed and available may be the best option for many couples. Choose to have the sitter at your wedding venue or a nearby location. Allowing parents to enjoy the wedding festivities, yet still having the option to check in on them and enjoy a family holiday together.
Providing an activities pack for the children and a list of recommended family friendly things to do in the area. This is a great way to make your out of town guests and their children feel thought of and catered for. Coffs Harbour has many family friendly activities including an exciting fun park at the Big Banana and cultural events at Sealy Lookout. And of course the beach activities are endless.
The most important detail to help out of town guests enjoy their time at and in between your wedding festivities is offering accommodation appropriate for their situation. For families, quiet spaces for naps, safe areas for toddling feet and access to a kitchen to whip up a snack, make their holiday feel more like a home away.
At Diggers Beach Cottage, we offer just that. Helping families enjoy a serene holiday away with all the comforts of home. Even while attending exciting and festive weddings and events at the resorts within walking distance from your door.
